Top 5 Deals of the Week: 4th – 11th Decemeber

Everyone loves a good movie, be it an action thriller or a romantic comedy. There has been an influx of quality movies coming to DVD and Blu-Ray of late, so it’s only right that we take the time to appreciate them and sort the bargains from the completely bonkers. As you would expect, a large portion of this are from The Shawshank Redemptiononline entertainment specialists such as Play.com and Amazon but there are still bargains to be had on the highstreet as well! Let’s get this list started properly with an absolute classic!

5. The Shawshank Redemption Blu-Ray. £5.96 @ Game.

A bit of a curve ball in terms of the source of this offer, with Game of all places breaking into our list. The movie itself is a stunning example of what all films should aspire to be. A creative, compelling storyline and stellar performances across the board. It’s often said that IMDB.com is the most critical movie community in the world and they rate this as the #1 film, ever. At less than £6, this is an absolute bargain.

4. Kill Bill Volume I & II Blu-Ray. £10.00 @ HMV.

We said the high street would feature in our list and here it is. HMV currently have Kill Bill Volume I & II on Blu-Ray for just £10, which is a bargain no matter which way you look at it. If women swinging samurai swords is your thing (which it should be!) then you’ll love this little package.

3. Aliens & Aliens: Resurrection. £1.99 @ Amazon.

Aliens was a box office smash hit in 1986, taking more than $130m. The phrase “they don’t make ’em like this anymore” has never been more fitting either! This sci-fi action film had it all; tense moments, adrenaline pumping action and obviously aliens in abundance — with Sigourney Weaver being the icing on the cake!

2. Terminator II Blu-Ray. £5 @ Asda Online.

“I’ll be back”! Terminator is the franchise that Arnie is best known for, while also acting as a blueprint for all action films after it. Many consider this to be the best of the Terminator movies, in addition to coughing up some truly deep lines; such as “we’re not going to make it are we? People I mean..”, to which the Terminator replies “It’s in your nature to destroy yourselves”. Classic stuff! For a fiver, this is a must own. Get in quick though, from what we understand stocks are limited.

1. Lord of the Rings Box-set. £6.00 @ Tesco.

Lord of the Rings has completely redefined the fantasy genre and brought it to the masses. On the back of the success of the books by J R R Tolkien, Peter Jackson took up the challenge of directing and producing the screen adaptation and exceeded all expectations. The trilogy as a whole made more than $2 billion (no, that wasn’t a typo) at the box office, cementing its place as one of the greatest franchises to ever make its way onto the big screen. If you haven’t seen Lord of the Rings then this is a must buy and if you have then you’ve probably already grabbed your car keys! At £6.00 this is an essential addition to anyones collection.
